Hey everyone and welcome back to Joey’s Retro Handhelds. I’m Joey and today we’re going to do another fun one, like my Pokemon Romhacks one, and we’ll look at Fire Emblem Romhacks this time.
Let’s just jump right in and look at some games. Remember you have to patch your own ROMS with these romhacks for it to work.
I realized I had one extra device I wanted to show off, so here’s a bonus romhack to make it 11 total and we’re using the Retroid Pocket Flip.
The Lonely Mirror
The Lonely Mirror is a Fire Emblem 8 based romhack, and has an original story and characters, 40 maps, 48 playable characters, player choices with branching paths, custom backgrounds and sprites, new music and a lot more, but stays true to the Fire Emblem experience.
Bells of Byelen
Starting off our actual list strong with the game that has my favorite music out of all of them, and we’re going to use the Analogue Pocket to show it off. Bells of Byelen has been a tough romhack to play, but very fun. You follow the story of two officers from the Decian Liberators rebel group who are fighting to free their country of Decia from the Cythean Empire. This game has mechanics based on the Thracia 776 Fire Emblem game that was released in Japan, but not in North America and has 24 chapters, 73 playable units and so much more.
Dark Lord and The Maiden of Light
Next up is Dark Lord and the Maiden of Light, on my Retroid Pocket 2S. This is a romhack based off Fire Emblem 7 and follows a young lord in Vanheim that gets caught up in a war between the empire of Deimos and their target, Enterre. This is an entirely original setting, story and characters with 27 chapters, music from previous Fire Emblem games, and more.
Deity Device
For the most unique on this list, Deity Device actually has three parts, and so three different ROM files and uses Fire Emblem 8 as a base, on my Anbernic RG35XX. This is a heavily story drive game and why it was divided into three separate ROMS. You follow a noble woman named Callista who’s traveling with her knights, but bad things happen and you’re now in the thick of it. There’s 39 chapters, 26 playable units and an all new magic system.
Four Kings
Four Kings story centers around three brothers, Walter, Lionel and Terril and we’ll be using the Powkiddy RGB30 to play it. They’re royals and part of an envoy to the King of Behanzin, but brothers will be brothers, and their in-fighting causes issues. There’s 40 playable characters with unique weapons, 29 story chapters, post-game maps, a split route in mid-game so you can play between different groups and more. This is an entirely new and original story.
Justice and Pride
Justice and Pride takes place in the continent of Irona, where the son of a Duke is killed by powerful monsters during a scouting mission and it turns the entire continent into turmoil. This is a Fire Emblem 8 hack, with 30 chapters, 8 post-game maps, lots of quality of life changes, difficulty modes, new classes and a lot more, using the Anbernic RG405M.
Souls of the Forest
Souls of the Forest is a gameplay focused romhack, based on Fire Emblem 8 and features three difficulty modes, 24 chapters and 4 sidequests, 60 playable characters, lots of quality of life improvements, and a lot more. We’re here playing it on the Anbernic RG405V. You follow Lady Rakel on her adventure, but the story is secondary to the gameplay in this one.
The Last Promise
The first of two games on our list that has retro achievements, The Last Promise is a Fire Emblem 7 romhack that was made a long, long time ago and so we’ll play it on a device made long ago, the Anbernic RG280V. It’s set in the continent of Solum and revolves around a group of misfits that are rebelling against the empire of Magnus. This was one of the first completed Fire Emblem Romhacks, has a post game mode and a lot more.
Sacred Echoes
Sacred Echoes, not to be confused with Sacred Stones is a Fire Emblem 8 romhack that is a demake of Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia that released on the Nintendo 3DS and we’re here playing it on the Anbernic RG353PS. This is a complete demake, with all 5 story acts, 46 maps, and extra chapters that the 3DS release had, but now on Game Boy Advance.
The Sun God’s Wrath
Sun God’s Wrath is a Fire Emblem 8 romhack that is a sequel to a not so good romhack called Corrupt Theocracy and we’re using the Anbernic RG351P. You don’t need to play the original, I definitely would not and even the author says just don’t do it. It follows Astrea who’s a member of a mercenary group called Propater and she’s trying to restore the world that the sun God Pyron is trying to change.
Vision Quest
Once again, I said this list wasn’t in any particular order, but I left the best for last, for both the game and the device, as we’re using the AYN Odin 2 here. Vision Quest is a fantastic romhack based off Fire Emblem 8 and follows a young farmer named Storch who is trying to protect his friends and family by being a bandit as the state of Belaro is levying high taxes and imprisoning anyone that can’t pay. This is on a new continent called yaska, there’s 41 chapters, 62 characters, fog of war and so much more. If you want one on this list to start with, I would go with this, as it’s an extremely good romhack.
Unlike my Pokemon list, I actually had a tough time finding more Fire Emblem romhacks to play. I’d love to add more to my list.
