About Me

Best source for retro handheld reviews, tips, tricks and retro emulation in general

Hey everyone and welcome to Joey’s Retro Handhelds, the website. This website was started in 2024, with my YouTube channel being the start of my journey in 2023. I’ve made the switch to full-time YouTube thanks to all of the support I’ve received from my audience and I’m excited to continue growing through the years.

The purpose of this website is to help put into words a lot of the setup guides and reviews that I do, so you have a second option to visit in case videos isn’t your favorite form of entertainment.

About Me

I wish I could really remember what I started with, but I know it has to be the Nintendo Game Boy, or the Super Nintendo. I can vividly remember the day I bought my first Game Boy though, and my first game, Pokemon Blue, which is still to this day one of my favorite games. Back then though, you were lucky enough to get a game per quarter of the year, as games were very expensive and it was tough to shell out that money or in my case, ask for it from my parents since I was so young.

Most of the time I had to resort to a weekly Blockbuster trip and hope that I could finish the game by the time the rental was up. As time went on, I’ve owned so many consoles and handhelds, basically everything Nintendo has ever put out, Microsoft’s Xbox 360, Sony’s PlayStation’s and so on. Video games have always been more than a hobby for me, and especially retro gaming in general which I’m happy to share with you all.

Review Style

One thing that is probably abundantly clear to anyone that’s ever watched any of my review videos is that I will never be for sale for any review. All opinions and thoughts are my own, no matter who is sending a device for review, and that will be the case until the end of time. My integrity can’t be bought for the price of a handheld, and you can be confident that right or wrong in my opinions, they are at the very least my own.

Sponsors

From time to time, I will have sponsorships in my videos from companies who are looking to advertise their products on my channel. I’m very clear that the segment or video is a sponsorship (typically 30 seconds to two minutes or it could be an entire video, depending on the sponsor) and should be taken as clear advertisements for that brand. Sponsorships are a needed necessity in this field, as the monetary support they provide help keep the channel and website continuing.

Affiliate Links

Many, if not all of my links are affiliate links. There is no cost to you as a consumer, but it’s a necessary addition on my part to help feed my family, myself and keep the channel and website running. As I spoke about in my review style section above, affiliate links in no way change or shape my reviews, thoughts or opinions and are merely a way for me to help stay afloat if the particular device I’m reviewing is something you’re interested in purchasing. It’s a way to support the channel, but I do have other ways below.

Ways to Support Me

There’s multiple ways to support me and the channel! Here’s a few, ranging from no cost to you, to some monetary value, but in all cases, any and all support is appreciated!

  • Like and Subscribe: It’s such a cliche thing, but liking and subscribing to my YouTube channel and videos really is one of the best, easiest and no-cost ways to support me.
  • Use my links: Described above in my affiliate section, but using my affiliate links for purchases is another easy way to support the channel with no added work on your part.
  • Patreon: Patreon is the next step up if you wanted to do any monetary support. I offer a few different tiers, and appreciate any support this way.
